To like or to “dislike”, that is the question

By | Oct 30th, 2015 03.30 AM | View all posts in Social Media Marketing

Yes, we are talking about Facebook’s new dislike button, which turned out to not literally mean the thumbs-down icon. Mark Zuckerberg and his team launched Facebook in February, 2004. Five years later, the Like button was added and the world went crazy with ‘likes’. Why is the number of likes so important? In terms of psychology, likes essentially reflect a positive attitude towards oneself and one’s brand. It acts as a soft measurement of how many people like you and your brand. At times, it’s also a reflection of authentic feedback regarding certain topic or products (I am talking about organic likes FYI). Have you ever come across a page with low number of likes and then decide against liking the page and the posts yourself? If you compare two Facebook pages, the audience tend to end up following a page that has more likes.

Leveraging User-Generated Content: A Case Study of Brands

By | Jan 12th, 2015 11.01 AM | View all posts in Tips & Tricks

There is no question that eye-catching and interesting content is becoming more important and will continue to be so for many years to come. Why? As consumers become more accustomed to marketing materials, and could easily spot one right away, content created solely for marketing purposes quickly become less and less effective.

Today’s marketers should really be about finding a way to engage and interact with consumers on a person-to-person basis, and what better way to do so than via user-generated content? In reality, this is much easier said than done. If you were to add a simple open question to the end of your blog post such as, “well what do you think?” to prompt comments, you’ll quickly find that it doesn’t work and you’re back at square one.

An entire marketing campaign strategy and a team of marketers are nevertheless needed for a successful user-generated content approach. Here are a few successful case studies by 5 brands to get you started.

Starbucks

As simple as it may sound here, this particular Starbucks campaign was a huge success. The brand not only successfully engaged fans but ended up with some very visual appealing user-generated content when they launched the Starbucks’s White Cup Contest. The campaign was a contest that asked participants to paint Starbucks’s white cups, take a photo of their artwork and submit the photos to the brand’s social media page using the hashtag #WhiteCupContest. The result are wonderful visuals for Starbucks’s Facebook and Pinterest pages as well as an increase in their social media organic reach.

Digital Marketers Guide to Seducing the Millennials

By | Jul 18th, 2014 09.04 AM | View all posts in Digital Marketing

What are Millennials? You’ve probably heard this term many times but you’re unable to place a finger on it (without cross-referencing to Google). Millennials are people who are born in the early 1980’s to 2000 and are between the ages of 18-34. As digital marketing is moving rapidly in conjunction with advancing technologies, so are people’s expectations. People expect things to be simpler (or delivered on a silver platter). In this day and age, quality, strategy and adaptability are the keys to progressing forward in reaching out to customers. Digital marketing is evolving to cater to millennials and better retain this age group as their primary customers.

Let’s put it into perspective; the marketing landscape has dramatically shifted from 20 years ago. Granted, traditional marketing is still in use but it may not be as effective as it was back in the days. Today, many businesses shift to the online platform to gain a strong, social presence. It is essential for businesses to have accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google Plus as a means to reach out and retain. Why does it matter to millennials? It matters a lot more than you think. A large chunk of the world’s population is made up of millennials and as a business, it’s imperative to ask: How do you adapt your business model to cater to this group? What do you have to do to gain their attention? How can you reach out to them to purchase your services and products? more
